Thank you for a picture which captures in a single view the structure of the Universe as envisioned by Dante. About Dante's being a jerk -- how do you get around that? I'm also writing a book about myself, in which people who have done injustice to me I ridicule as morally mediocre. But are they not so?

I always associate paradise with pictures of tropical islands and all that the easy life on those islands entails. Right now, I am trying to figure out what my personal paradise would look like so that I can work to get there.

I enjoy these transcripts!

Whoa, that's such a deceptively simple question. I don't think that I have one answer. Sometimes Paradise is being on stage, or waking up knowing I can sleep more if I want to. Starting and finishing books, promise and then consummation. I think I bring Paradise with me, and sometimes I turn the key and open it up to peer inside.

This is not my voice, either. This is interview transcription with mild editing. I did a series of interviews with women over 50 as part of my Dante project.

To someone who was there, when you were not, doing exactly the same thing from an older perspective, this really speaks to me, Anne.

Watch me please. I plan to die a different way, not quite "in the saddle" but with focus and awareness.

This is writing that I connect with! Did you write it as the result of something? To me it just flows and I want to read more. Is there more?

I think Purgatory is in some ways more messed up than Hell, because at least in Dante's version, there's equally terrible things happening, but they're inflicted by angels, not demons.

I think I remember that project, and what a cool idea I thought it was. I do hope it comes to fruition, and I'd love to read it at some point. I'm especially curious as to how you relate childhood to hell. I can sort of see parallels between the age breaks you mentioned and some aspects of hell, purgatory, and paradise, but it's a vague thing in my mind, not terribly clear. Though, to be fair, I had a really hazy idea of what purgatory was until I talked to a nun friend of mine about specifically what the church teaches about it. Love to hear from you!
