I’m dabbling in a little XHTML and CSS action. Hopefully this means sexy new website look over the summer, plus eventually webcomic–I have 18ish page mini comic that’s going up sometime in the next year or so. (As in, I’ve written it, but another artist is drawing it, and she has like a life and stuff so it’ll take a hot second.)

Ah, yes. Toy Story is similar in its upside-down messaging. The kid who buys all the licensed merch is the good guy, while the creative kid who knows how to use power tools and get inventive with broken toys (and even brings home a chew toy for his dog) is figured as the villain. Maybe it’s just me.

So are you learning HTML? There was a time in my life when teaching myself XHTML and CSS actually came in handy at work, but not anymore, so I’ve sadly forgotten most of it, but it’s totally fun.

Not to mention the whole “math” part of Beauty and the Beast…If the Beast is cursed and that rose only lasts til his “21st year” and they’ve all been cursed for 10 years…then he was an 11 year old kid when that witch cast a spell on him. Dude. What a bitch, he’s just a kid! Not that 11 year olds are all nice, but still. He was a kid! A kid all alone, because obviously he doesn’t have parents…which is another issue entirely. No wonder he was so beastly, he had no parents! And a tea kettle is really not that much of an authority figure to a teenage beast kid.

We’re having a moment with Disney in my house as well, looking at Ursula in LM and the Hunchback scary puritanical virgin/whore song (Hellfire, I think?). I grew up with this shit, no wonder I’m afraid of intimacy! Jesus.

Holy crap good timing! This is my memoir…..I am writing a real life Beauty and the Best except the Beast was a blatant sex addicted abuser!! I actually made the connections at the time (not the abuser piece, but certainly the Best part) when the movie was released. (Read the children’s book about abuse “The Gorilla and the Fairy”) I wasn’t trying to save my father, but I was trying to save my children and I clearly made CHOICES. But still…this is horrible role modeling for little girls: you need to stay with him because really he is nice down inside and you CAN change him if you are good enough . ICK. Yes there is hope for Belle….she will figure out one day that he is an asshole and that she is worth so much more than his occasional romantic gestures. The saving Beast did was not for HER….it was for HIM…it intended made him look good – maybe even a set-up – (classic borderline personality disorder) which confuses the issue. He never really changes, he only makes it look like he does so she gets sucked in further by her choice….a choice made on lies is no choice at all. She will figure it out but only after years of being chained to a wall or a bed or scouring floors or being subjected to humiliation while the toaster and teacup watch. Poor Belle….I should publish soon so she can read it and escape….
